Court adjourns case of Angel’s mother to Feb. 4


A Magistrate Court sitting in Ebute-Meta has adjourned the case of late Beauty Macleod, the mother of Nigeria’s Junior Tennis Champion, Angel Macleod, who was allegedly murdered by a policeman in Lagos to February 4, 2016.

The case which was before Magistrate K. A Ariyo was yesterday as the court awaits the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution’s (DPP) on the matter. And the accused was however not brought to court. According to the counsel to the Family of the deceased, Mr Chidiozie Bonaventure Obi, the matter is still pending before the court because the court is waiting for the DPP’s advice.

“Presently the court is still waiting for the DPP advice , after which we will know the way forward”, he stated.

He also added that the Magistrate court does not have the jurisdiction to preside over the case of murder.

The mother of the Angel Macleod, who was present in court yesterday, was allegedly murdered in October by a policeman identified as Aminu Joseph, after an altercation between both at an hotel on Balarabe Musa Street, Victoria Island.

The late Nwankwo,who had lodged in a hotel in the area with her daughter, Angel was said to have engaged in an argument with the policeman before the incident happened.

However, the counsel also confirmed that the accused person has since been in custody.
