Seven persons yesterday lost their lives with 17 others on danger list as a result of an accident that occurred at the Sagamu/Iperu Remo Junction of the Lagos – Ore – Benin Expressway.
The accident involved a Toyota Hummer passenger bus with number plate BDG 789 XJ which had a head-on collision with another Mazda passenger bus with number plate REE 248 XA.
The passenger-filled Toyota Hummer bus was reported to be carrying passengers who were returning to Lagos after the Yuletide festival in the Eastern part of Nigeria.
It was also reported that the accident might have occurred when the driver of the Toyota Hummer bus lost control of the bus prompting it to veer off its lane and scale the median before hitting the Mazda bus, which was reportedly driving towards Sagamu.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Adegoke Adetunji, explained that 28 persons were involved in the auto crash, but, only seven persons lost their lives.
Adetunji, however, linked the cause of the auto crash to over-speeding, saying that 17 other victims were in critical condition.
He also explained that those rescued alive were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, OOUTH, for medical attention, while the dead were taken to the mortuary.
