Kidnap: Police rescue 5-yr-old in Ebonyi


Men of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of Ebonyi State police command have rescued a five-year-old boy kidnapped on December 30, at Okwu-Ngbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Peace Abdallah, who confirmed the incident, noted that the victim was kidnapped about 9:45p.m., but was rescued through the effort of the police.

She said that with intelligence gathering and collaborative efforts with the family and the community involved, the victim was on January 3, rescued after attempt to collect ransom was foiled.

“I visited the family myself with the ACID. By the evening of January 2, with the threat to sell the child to Cross River State buyer, so they had to reduce the ransom from N1.5 million to N100, 000. And you know, if you pay the ransom and you are not careful, you might also lose the child.”

She explained that the boy after being rescued, disclosed that he was taken to a nearby Sunday school church by his abductors, where he was fed with garri.

Though three persons have been arrested in connection with the crime, the police boss observed laxity on the part of child’s guardians, who sent the victim on an errand at 9:45p.m., the day he was kidnapped.
