Ogun police arrest man for killing friend

The men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested one Lamidi Yusuf of Opeji Village in the Odeda Local Government Area for killing his friend, Oladepo Abiola.

The incident was said to have occurred on Saturday, January 16, 2016.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said police detectives attached to the Odeda division arrested the suspect, who is a night guard in a farm in the community.

He said the suspect had closed from work on the day from Arubiewa Farm around 8am and had noticed a movement in the bush, when he opened fire in the direction, adding that his friend died instantly.

He said, “The suspect, who left his working place as a night guard at Arubiewa Farm around 8am, noticed a movement in the bush. Thinking it was an animal, he opened fire on his friend with his dane gun, and killed him instantly.”

He said the suspect had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

He said, “The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Celestine Okoye, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police Ogun State, Abdulmajid Ali, has directed that the case be thoroughly investigated and subsequently prosecuted. He further promised that the command would make sure justice prevails in the matter.”

Meanwhile, the men of the command also intercepted and arrested some suspects who specialised in producing fake number plates for motorcycles in Ogun and Lagos states.

The suspects arrested were identified as Idowu Adebajo and Muyiwa Durojaiye.

Adejobi said the suspects were caught in possession of forged licences and documents in Sagamu and Lagos respectively.

He said the ring leader of the syndicate was on the run.

He explained that police detectives had acted on a complaint received from the task force established by the Association of Commercial Motorcyclists that some people were into illegal production of number plates and licences.

Adejobi added, “Some other unlawful items recovered from the syndicate include 17 fake number plates, computers, forged documents, Bajaj motorcycle with number plate, PKA 903 WG, and laminating machine, among others.”
