A commercial bus killed a girl in Kaduna on Friday after the driver had an epileptic fit and lost control of the vehicle.
The bus, which was conveying passengers from the popular Sheikh Abubakar Gumi Central Market to Kakuri in Kaduna, was on the Ahmadu Bello way when the incident occurred.
An eyewitness said the girl, who died instantly, was believed to be a female street beggar.
The eyewitness said the bus swerved from Jos road side of Ahmadu Bello Way onto Gwandu Road, about 300 metres apart, crushing motorcycles and hitting pedestrians, including the female beggar, whose identity was unknown as at the time of filing this report.
The eyewitness said, “We later learnt that he (driver) had seizure while in motion and as such could not control the vehicle.”
“We were standing by the road side, waiting for bus when we saw the driver battling in the bus for control but he couldn’t.
“We took to our heels for safety when we suddenly discovered that the bus was heading towards our direction.
“When we got to a vantage position, I saw the bus like a Nollywood movie, crushing motorcycles in front of a sales office, from there hit several passersby, including a girl. The commercial bus is heading towards the southern part of the state. It was terrifying.
“The driver of the bus was seen foaming from the mouth. We later discovered that he is an epileptic patient.”
It was gathered that those who sustained varying degrees of injuries were rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the metropolis.
The Kaduna State Police Command had yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filing this report.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abdullahi Zubairu, said he was not aware of the incident and promised to reach out to the Divisional Police Officer of area the for briefing on the matter.
