Police nab petrol tanker hijackers in Ogun


Police operatives attached to the Iperu division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested some suspects for allegedly hijacking a truck laden with 33,000 litres of petrol along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The suspects hijacked the product by blocking the truck with their sports utility vehicle on the road and making away with the truck and its content, a statement from the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Ogunjobi, said.

It said, “The suspects hijacked the truck with its content and drove to Okada in Edo State. The police operatives swung into action immediately the report was made at the Iperu division and traced the truck to where it was recovered with the product.

“One of the hijackers, Omoruyi Nathaniel, was arrested with the receiver of the product, Mrs. Adeyemi Adeyosola, and the suspects have been taken to the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and prosecution.”

The statement said the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Mr. Abdulmajid Ali, commended the police operatives, who recovered the truck, for the job and restated the command’s commitment to combating criminal activities in the state.

It said that Ali had ordered divisional police officers along the busy Lagos-Ibadan and Lagos-Benin expressways in Ogun State to go after hoodlums who rob on the roads.
