A trader from the South-Eastern part of Nigeria, identified as Okezie, has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly threatening a schoolboy with a kitchen knife.

For the residents of College Crescent, Oke Ado area in Ibadan where the alleged crime took place, Okezie deserved to be subjected to mental examination.

According to some of them, Okezie, who is the management director of Professor Olisco BWM Plaza, Imalefalafia, Ibadan, has been exhibiting strange behaviour for some time.

They alleged that it was not the first time that he would threaten to kill people with either a knife or a cutlass.

An eyewitness said Okezie snapped on Wednesday, picked up a knife and went after the pupil of a private school.

Before the arrival of the police, a mob that had gathered alleged that a kidnapper’s dungeon was found in the area.

The witness said, “The man is a successful trader who is showing signs of mental disorder. He came to the building housing his auto spare parts business and his car wash business and started behaving in a strange way. He would have killed the boy if he had caught up with him. The boy ran to his school, and that was what saved him.

“It is not the first time that Okezie would behave like that. Sometimes, he would be calm, but in other days, he would behave abnormally. He would pick up a knife or cutlass and threaten to kill. He had injured some people before. The government has to come to our aid and relocate him from College Crescent.”

She added that the school principal later came back to the scene with the boy, who identified Okezie as the man who threatened to stab him.

“The police appeared at the scene and the boy insisted that the man threatened him with a knife. A large crowd gathered and insisted that a dungeon was in the buidling. They even searched the building, but nothing was discovered,” she said.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the arrest and promised to call back with the detail.
