Two killed as cultists fight in Ondo

No fewer than two persons lost their lives while many others sustained injuries in a clash between rival cult groups in Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, our correspondent gathered on Sunday.

The clash, which reportedly took place on Friday night at St. James’ Primary School, Oke-Dogbon, it was learnt, caused panic in nearby communities such as Ogbonmo and Idaniken.

The deceased were identified as Wasiu Jimoh and Ojo Lawrence.

A source told our correspondent that while Lawrence, who belonged to the Eiye Confraternity, was killed at Idaniken, a reprisal led to the death of Jimoh. The source, however, could not identify the rival group that Jimoh belonged to.

The source, who craved anonymity, noted that the quick intervention of security operatives forestalled the escalation of the crisis.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident, said the command had arrested two persons in connection with it.

He identified the suspects as Dada Asibi and Isiaka Basiru.
