The Ogun State Police Command has arrested five suspected armed robbers who specialise in snatching cars in Ota, Ado Odo/Ota Local Governmment Area of the state.
They were said to have been arrested on Saturday around 10am along Owode/Idiroko Road in Ota.
The suspects were Mathew Faleti (25), Shola Isah (35),Monday Edun (22),Mkses Kumolusa (20), and Adebisi Telfa (20).
The robbers were said to have confessed to being members of a syndicate that snatch cars in Ota and Ogun State at large, and they equally have powers to hypnotise their victims.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the suspected armed robbers were arrested at their hideout by police operatives attached to Onipanu Division of the command following a tip off from an informant.
He said, “The armed robbers were arrested at the hideout of the suspects along Owode/Idiroko Road in Ado Odo/ Ota Local Government Area of the state following a tip off from from an informant.
The suspects have confessed to belong to a syndicate of car snatchers who have been terrorising Ota area and Ogun State at large. They also confessed to have powers to hypnotise their victims.”
He said the items recovered from them include one red unregistered Bajaj Motorcycle, locally- made bullet proof vest, assorted charms, dangerous weapons various suspected stolen items.
In the same vein, police operatives attached to Ago Iwoye Division of the command on the same day also arrested two suspected cultists who were engaged in initiation of some young boys in a bush at Imosan Ijebu, via Ago Iwoye.
The suspected cultists were arrested when some of the newly initiated members reported their illegal act to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Division, that the cultists actually forced them into the bush for initiation without their consent.
The two suspects who were said to be among the ring leaders that masterminded the initiation process were Obasanjo Segun (25) and Musari Saheed (25) of Computer Village in Ago Iwoye.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspects have confessed to belong to Aiye confraternity, also known as Black Axe.
He said the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, had directed that the suspects in the cases of robbery and cultism be transferred to the Special Anti- Robbery Squad for proper investigation as “he will not tolerate any act of cultism and criminality in Ogun State.”
He said Ali also vowed to flush cultists out of Ogun as he believed that cultism “is the basis for any crime or social vices, that if cultism is tackled, crime is 90 per cent tackled.”
