Motorist avoids killing rider, plunges into building

Tragedy was averted on Tuesday in Ibadan, Oyo State after a woman veered off the main road and plunged into a house witsh her car while trying to avoid killing a commercial motorcyclist.

Our correspondent, who witnessed the incident at the Bodija area of Ibadan, observed that the Toyota Camry driven by the woman, identified simply as Alhaja, broke through the fence of the house and fell on its bonnet.

Although the driver and a young passenger in the car were not injured, it was obvious that they were shaken by the incident.

Our correspondent also observed that the damage to the car and the house was extensive.

Eyewitnesses said the driver had just left her home, which is about 500 meters from the scene, and was negotiating a bend to connect the main road leading to the Bodija Market when the commercial motorcyclist rode into the path of the car.

One of the occupants of the house said, “The owner of the car is a neighbour. When a policeman approached the scene, we told him that it was a matter that would be amicably settled since there was no one injured in the house.”
