NSCDC man kills loader in A’Ibom

An operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has killed a truck loader with the Dompec Global Resources Limited, Mr. Chukwudi John.

It was learnt that the truck with number plate, XC 225 UYY, was coming from the Abak area in Akwa Ibom State, where John and his colleagues had supplied goods to customers.

The second driver, Mr. Anthony Okpara, 30, said the incident happened about 2.30pm. He added that the incident occurred after the NSCDC officer told the first driver to stop.

He stated that as the driver tried to park, the officer fired shots at the vehicle, which hit John in the head and chest.

“We went to Abak to supply goods to customers. As we were coming back, the civil defence man asked us to stop.

“As the driver tried to park by the roadside, the officer fired shots at the vehicle and John, who was hit by bullets, died instantly,” he said.

He stated that when the operatives noticed that one of the truck occupants had died, they fled the scene.

Attempts to speak with the state Commandant, Mrs. Obiageli Obiajulu, proved abortive.

The spokesman for the corps, Owoidighe Thomas, said the commandant was not “composed to talk to the press”.
