Three feared killed as gunmen invade Rivers community

THREE persons were feared killed as gunmen suspected to be cultists invaded Ezelaka Igbodo community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday.

One of those shot and killed by the gunmen, who came into the community on motorcycles, was a teacher known as Mr. Chimezie Peter-Nwanyanwu.

A source in the community who related the development to Southern City News noted that the gunmen entered the community on motorcycles.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed that Peter-Nwanyanwu was among the people caught by the bullets from the attackers.

The source also disclosed that Peter-Nwanyanwu was a teacher in a community secondary school in the area.

He added that the hoodlums invaded the community, shooting indiscriminately and causing panic among indigenes.

“As I speak with you now, the whole of Igbodo Community is in tension because some gunmen we are suspecting to be cultists invaded the community in the night and opened fire.

“They entered the community on motorcycles; they shot three persons and several other people sustained various degrees of wounds during the shooting.

“One Mr. Chimezie Peter-Nwanyanwu, a teacher in the community school, is among the victims. We call for more security measures to be put in place because the people are now living in fear.”
