60-year-old blind man arraigned in Niger


A Minna Chief Magistrate Court has arraigned a 60-year-old blind man, Idris Usman, who allegedly had canal knowledge of two teenagers near the PZ area in Minna.

The two victims simply identified as Mustapha, 10, and Zangina, 12, in separate interviews confirmed the incident, saying the blind man used to invite them for sexual intercourse.


Some residents of PZ had hinted the Director General, Niger State Child Right Agency, Maryam Kolo, on how the blind man used to lure the two teenagers for sexual intercourse through anus.

It was gathered that she arrested of the blind man and handed him over to the police for investigation.

Usman, it was gathered, confessed to have had sexual intercourse with some teenagers through anus and attributed the act to the Devil and pleaded for leniency.

One of the victims is reportedly on admission at the Minna General Hospital as a result of severe stomach arising from the abuse.

There was a mild drama when he was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court IV presided over by Hajiya Hauwa Baba Yusuf. Usman told the court that he did not know why he was in the court as the police prosecutor, Sgt. Francis Ewede, could not understand Hausa and there was no interpreter to assist him.

It was, however, gathered that Usman was standing trial on a one-count charge of unnatural offence punishable under Section 284 of the penal code.

The Police First Information Report, made available to newsmen in Minna read in part, “ that you, Idris Usman, of PZ area of Minna lured two boys aged between 10 to 12 years into your room on different times and had sex with them. During Police investigation, you confessed to the act.”

The magistrate however adjourned the case till Thursday, January 5, 2017 for further mention and ordered the blind man to be remanded in prison custody.
