Police arrest cattle rustlers in Niger

NIGER State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zubairu Muazu, on Thursday disclosed that the command had arrested and prosecuted 40 notorious cattle rustlers, kidnappers and armed bandits and recovered various arms and ammunition from them.

Muazu said cattle rustling, kidnapping, armed banditry and communal clashes had been identified as major security challenges facing the state.

He said, “I cannot allow cattle rustlers, kidnappers and armed bandits to take over the state; that is why through our sustained effort we were able to arrest and prosecute many of them.

“We are doing everything within our reach to reduce crime in the state to the barest minimum so that Nigerlites will have their eyes closed while sleeping.”

The commissioner commended the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, for approving the establishment of the base in Kontagora, noting that the base would go a long way in curtailing crime rate in the state.

He said the Kontagora Mobile Squadron would commence operation from its temporary site before the completion of the permanent site.

He quoted the IGP as stating that the Police Mobile Force was established as a strike and anti-riot unit of the force to counter incidents of civil disturbances and insurgency.

“He assured Nigerians that the Police will spare nothing to ensure that it adequately respond to crisis and incidents, tactically and professionally, creating confidence in the heart of citizenry,” he said.
