Members of Igbogene Vigilance Committee in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have arrested a 32-year-old man, Amatare Wenibo, for alleged burglary of a shop and theft of a pot of soup.

The shop was said to belong to an unnamed Igbo woman operating a restaurant in Igbogene, a suburb of the state capital.

The vigilante group said the suspect (Wenibo) was apprehended while settling down to dish out some soup for use to eat cassava meal (Eba).

Wenibo, who is an indigene of Akuwoni community in Okordia/Zarama area of Yenagoa LGA, was reportedly apprehended at about 12:15am on Friday.

Giving insight into the burglary and theft, Chairman of IVC, Chief Robbison Moneysweet, said the suspect had been handed over to the police, Igbogene Division.

He said the suspect was apprehended in possession of a wheel barrow, garri, pot of soup, some trousers, T-shirts and shoes.

Moneysweet said, “He was arrested for burglary of a shop owned by an Igbo woman. The shop is a local eatery where Nigerian food is sold. He was apprehended while helping himself with the soup and other things.”

Effort to get confirmation from the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Asinim Butswat, proved abortive as his mobile phone indicated it was not reachable.
