A Kano Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of Ado Sa’adu, 40, for allegedly defiling his eight-year-old stepdaughter.
Sa’adu, a trader, in Hotoron Arewa Quarters, Kano, was charged to court over rape contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code.
Chief Magistrate Muhammad Jibril ordered the remand of the accused at the hearing on Thursday after the accused had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Jibril adjourned the case for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Rufa’I Inusa, had told the court that Hannatu Ibrahim of Na’ibawa Yanlemo Quarters, Kano, had reported the case to Hisbah Board Office, Sharada Kano, on Nov. 17.
Inusa quoting the report said that on Nov. 11, at about 10.30pm, the complainant (Ibrahim) had caught the accused, which doubled as her husband, tearing the pant of her eight-year-old daughter while sleeping.
He said the victim on interrogation admitted that he used to remove his stepdaughter’s pant every night.
“He used to insert his penis into my vagina and have unlawful sexual intercourse with me,” he quoted her to have said.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.
