Couple machetes neighbour over land dispute

 


A couple, Kola and Kuburat Fatola, were on Wednesday arraigned in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State for allegedly beating their neighbour, one Mr. Kunle Akinbo over land boundary issue.


Kola, 32, and Kuburat, 26, were alleged to have cut Akinbo’s hand with a cutlass.

The two accused of No. 32 Iwasanmi Str, Ayeka Okitipupa and with no fixed occupation, were being tried on a two-count of assault and felony.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi told the court that the accused on November 2 at about 6.30 p.m No. 32 Iwasanmi Str, Ayeka Okitipupa, conspired to unlawfully beat Akinbo over land boundary issue.

He said that the two accused who lived in the same neighbourhood with Akinbo accused him of encroaching on their land.

Orogbemi added that in the process, they used cutlass to cut him in his right hand which caused bodily harm to him.

The prosecutor said that the offences were contrary to and punishable under Sections 355 and 516, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

The two accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The Magistrate, Mr. Banji Ayeomoni granted the two accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 each and a surety each in the like sums.

Ayeomoni, who ordered that the sureties must present one year tax clearance, adjourned the case for further hearing.
