Police arrest dropouts for stealing N1.4m wires

Two secondary school dropouts – Musa Hassan, 18, and Lawal Salako, 18 – are cooling their feet in police custody for allegedly stealing wires worth N1.4m at Ola Diamond Hotel in Asore community, in the Atan area of Ogun State.

It was learnt that the teenagers stole the wires from the hotel, which was under construction in the community. They had reportedly stolen the wire around 1pm on Saturday.

PUNCH Metro gathered that a resident, who saw them, reported the case at the Onipanu Police Division.

A police team from the station was said to have tracked down the suspects and recovered the stolen wires.

A police source told our correspondent that the suspects had confessed to the crime, adding that the team, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Muyideen Obe, trailed them to their hideout in an uncompleted building.

“Salako is from Benin Republic, while Hassan hails from Borno State. They are both school dropouts. Wires valued at N1.4m were recovered from them,” the source said.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ambibola Oyeyemi, promised to get back to our correspondent, but had yet to do so as of press time.
