Police arrest 10 over cultism, public disturbance

TEN persons have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command over cultism and public disturbance.

The suspects were arrested in Mowe area of the state following a violent clash involving two rival groups.

They were said to have been arrested at different locations in the area after unleashing terror on innocent members of the public, while vandalising several property.

According to a statement issued by the command’s image-maker, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police acted following a distress call by residents to the Area Commander, Sagamu and Divisional Police Officer, Mowe.

One of the suspects was said to be a female in whose house one of the gangs held a strategic meeting before launching an attack on a rival gang, as well as on members of the public.

The Area Commander, Sagamu, Issa Gremma, was reported to have personally led the operation and was still on ground monitoring the situation as of the time of filing this report.

Oyeyemi further said that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.

He appealed to parents to warn their children against any criminal act, as the Command, would deal decisively with anybody caught perpetrating act of criminality.
