Operatives of State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of Lagos State Police Command, have arrested a 28- year- old woman, Alapa Linda, for allegedly beating one Joy Mbafan,10, to death.
The incident happened on December 12, 2016, at about 8 a.m at Bamgboye Street, Deeper Life, First Gate, Ikorodu.
Linda, an expectant mother, who also has a two- year- old girl, was said to have used a mopping stick to beat Mbafan to death.
It was learnt that Linda, who hails from Imo State, was upset with the little girl for defecating on her body.
She was said to have been re-arrested in Owerri, Imo State capital, by SCID operatives, after she jumped bail at a police station in Lagos.
She was subsequently arraigned before an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court for alleged murder.
The charge reads: “That you, Alapa Linda ‘f’ on the December 12, 2016 at Bamgboye Deeper Life ,First Gate, Ikorodu ,Lagos ,in the Lagos Magisterial District did kill one Joy Mbafan ‘f’, 10, by hitting her with a mopping stick and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 223 on the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.”
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Chinalu Uwadione told the court that ‘’autopsy was carried out at Ikorodu General Hospital that revealed the girl was inflicted with several injuries on her waist ,back and arm.”
He asked the court to remand the accused in prison pending a legal advice adding that the Investigative Police Officer (IPO) should duplicate the case file for a legal from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The defence counsel, Mrs N.E Obianozie, argued that there is a inquest regarding the matter at Ikorodu High Court.
She applied that the accused be granted bail in the most liberal term.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, ordered the accused to be remanded in Kirikiri Prison pending a legal advice from DPP office.
