74-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly got his local church congregation high on marijuana-laced cookies.
The pensioner, identified only as Mr. Jones, is said by police to have handed out the naughty treats to parishioners at the St. John’s Apostle Catholic Church.
Six people, aged between 12 and 70, ended up in hospital as a result of the “adverse effects” of the spiked cookies.
Police grew suspicious about what might have been in the cookies when the victims described an unusually salty taste.
Mr. Jones did admit to handing out the cookies but denied adding anything illegal.
However, police who searched him found an “orange pill bottle containing capsules of a brown, oily substance, which later tested positive for marijuana.”
Mr. Jones turned himself in after a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Father Daniel Mahan of the church said: “We are praying for everyone involved.
The pensioner has been charged with criminal recklessness and possession of hash oil.
