The Niger State Police Command said on Tuesday that it had arrested one Sani Bature, a Fulani herdsman, from the Kafur Local Government Area in Kastina State, for allegedly attacking a farmer in the state.

This is just as the police nabbed two suspects in the Sarkin-Pawa area for unlawful possession of arms, and recovered 17 locally made pistols.

It was gathered that a team of policemen had tracked down Bature after he attacked the farmer, identified only as Alhaji Abdulla, who lived in Farin Doki, in the Paikoro Local Government Area of the state and destroyed his cassava farm.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect used a locally-made pistol and a jack knife to threaten the victim.

Elkana said the operatives had recovered the weapons.

Similarly, another team of policemen arrested two suspects along Sarkin-Pawa, Minna Road.

Commenting on the arrest, Elkana said, “The operatives recovered from them 17 locally-made revolver pistols with 81 pieces of live ammunition. We appeal to the public to continue to give us useful information as it would help to reduce crime rate in the state.

“With your help and cooperation, we will end criminality in the state and bring perpetrators to book. We will not relent in making the state crime-free.”
