Lagos command of the Nigeria Police has arrested one Joy Shittu, a widow and her two daughters simply identified as Toyin and Aisha for unlawfully hiding the corpse of their late father, Jimoh Shittu inside their house on Olaitan Mustapha, off Clem road, Ijaiye, Ojokoro, Lagos.
According to a police source, the widow claimed that she decided to keep the corpse of her late husband at home due to strained relationship she has with the man’s family.
But eyewitness account said the lid was blown open at the wee hours of Tuesday when Toyin and Aisha, both graduates allegedly smuggled an elderly man into their compound and was trying to strangulate him before he raised an alarm, which drew the attention of other residents in the area.
Residents immediately alerted Police officers attached to the Ojokoro Division nearby. The Police responded within minutes and arrested the three suspects.
The corpse has been deposited in an undisclosed morgue, while the matter has been transferred to the state’s Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Panti, Yaba for investigation.
Some of the witnesses who spoke with TELL off the record said the two young ladies do not have a single friend in the area.
The compound was sealed when this reporter visited on Thursday.
When TELL sort to speak with the man that was allegedly kidnapped, he said “I am not the one to speak with you. You need to see our chairman of landlord association here first.”
Although the chairman was not around when TELL visited, one of the landlords who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “We just finished meeting this morning and we were warned not to speak with any strange person on the matter.”
