A 25-year-old man, Chigozie Igwe, has committed suicide in Umuofor Umumumo community, Ehime Mbani Local Government Area of Imo State.
He was said to have hanged himself in a room in his family house.
The deceased, who was said to be jobless for several years after his secondary education, reportedly killed himself out of frustration and hardship.
When our correspondent visited the bereaved family, sympathisers were present mourning and wailing.
Though the family refused to say what might have led to the young man’s death, a source close to the family told SUNDAY PUNCHthat the deceased, who was the first son of his parents, left a suicide note that said, “Die, die, die; let nobody weep over me because I am tired of this wicked world.”
It was also learnt that the mother of the deceased, Mrs. Igwe, though distraught, was visibly angered by the manner her son chose to take his life.
“Is this the way you chose to leave this world? Remember that you have committed an abomination,” she was quoted as saying.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area could not be reached for comment but his men were said to have visited the scene shortly after the incident was reported to them.
