A 12-year-old girl from Pennsylvania, United States of America, narrowly escaped death for not reciting Bible verses correctly.
The assignment was given to her by the mother, Rhonda Shoffner.
According DailyMail UK, Shoffner beat and tried to strangle her for incorrectly reciting the verses.
The forty-one-year-old woman was sentenced to two and half to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges including aggravated assault of her daughter, who was younger than 13.
The Police Prosecutor said the girl was forced to kneel on the bathroom floor at Shoffner’s Middletown home and repeat Bible verses.
Police said Shoffner slammed the girl’s head into the wall each time she made a mistake.
The prosecutor added that Shoffner also told the child she was going to kill her.
Police explained further that the girl fought off Shoffner, who told her to leave and never return.
The girl then called her father, who drove her to a police station.
