A commercial motorcycle rider, Sina Adebisi, on Tuesday committed suicide in his apartment at the Oke Seni area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Sources said the father of three was the secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Oniyanrin unit, Ibadan. He was found dangling from a rope in the one-room apartment.

His sister, Abiodun Afolabi, said she saw 37-year-old Adebisi on Monday, adding that her brother had two wives.

She said, “I don’t know what happened to him because he did not owe anyone money. I still saw him yesterday (Monday). He was a motorcyclist and he plied routes close to where I live.

“He married two wives, but they no longer stay under the same roof. He had three children from the two marriages. The first child is about 18 years.”

Afolabi said she doubted that her brother committed suicide.

She said, “His legs were not far from the ground. The policemen will see it themselves and decide whether he looks like someone that hanged himself because we don’t understand as well.”

The branch Chairman of the NURTW, Okada Joint 8, Ayeye-Ibikunle route, Kabiru Akinwale, aka Kebe, said Afolabi was a member of the transport union and that his motorcycle was bought on hire purchase.

He said, “He was a member of my unit. I’m the branch chairman. I was working in the morning on Tuesday when they told me that he committed suicide.

“The person who gave him the motorcycle has gone to see his relatives. They had never argued over money.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Police Command, said the victim did not leave a suicide note, adding that his death was being investigated.

“His remains were deposited at the General Hospital, Adeoyo, for autopsy,” he added.
