The police in Osun State have arraigned a 19-year-old man, Bukunmi Olarinde, as well as one Kareem Ibrahim, 22, before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a bag containing cosmetics and other items.
They were arraigned before a magistrate, Mrs. Fatima Sodamade, on Monday on one count of stealing.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Duro Adekunle, told the court that the two accused committed the offence on September 30, 2017, at about 2.30pm around Aanuoluwapo community in Osogbo.
The prosecutor told the court that other items contained in the handbag stolen by the two accused included a Nokia phone, a Techno phone, earrings, a necklace, a wristwatch, a driving licence and a voter card, among items belonging to one Taiwo Adeleke.
The prosecutor valued the items stolen at N240,000, adding that the action of the two defendants violated the law and they should be punished accordingly.
He said, “The offence contravenes sections 516 and 383 ( 1), and is punishable under Section 309 ( 9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Law of Osun State, 2002.”
The two accused pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
The defence counsel, Mr. Babatunde Akinwunmi, prayed the court to grant his clients bail in most liberal terms.
He assured the court that his clients would not abuse the privilege if they were granted bail.
The magistrate admitted the two accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with one surety in like sum.
