An unidentified commercial tricycle operator, on Sunday in Kano, absconded with cash and personal effects belonging to a 40-year-old panel beater, Femi Ojo.

The tricyclist had conveyed Ojo and his sick pregnant wife, Monisola, to Mallam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, as the woman reportedly needed urgent medical attention.

Ojo said the tricycle operator charged him N700 for the ride, but he gave him N1,000 without waiting to collect the N300 change as he and his wife made for the emergency ward of the AKTH.

Ojo said he and his wife left their personal effects in the tricycle, with some some amount of money, and with the understanding that the tricycle operator would wait for him to return after his wife might have been admitted to the hospital.

His wife, however, died moments after arriving at the hospital.

Ojo said the doctors on duty at AKTH tried unsuccessfully to revive Monisola, who had reportedly suffered partial paralysis after she slumped in the church on Sunday.

She was rushed to AKTH for emergency medical attention, but she did not survive.

Ojo later returned to discover that the tricyclist had escaped with their belongings, and items which included 10 tins of milk, loaves of bread, clothing, four pairs of shoes, National Identity cards and ATM cards.

As at the time of filing this report, the fleeing tricycle operator was still at large.

Ojo promised to lodge a formal complaint at the nearest police station once he recovers from the shock occasioned by the sudden death of his wife.

Meanwhile, Monisola has been buried, and she is survived by her husband and two sons.
