The Police on Wednesday arraigned one Peter Nwabueze, 38, at an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State over alleged attempt to kidnapped a twin.
Nwabueze, whose house address is not known, is being tried for stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 13, at about 9.30 a.m at No. 4, Afolabi Close, Savage Gemade Estate, Lagos State.
Olatunde alleged that the accused had broken into Mrs Sherifat Ayorinde’s apartment and made an attempt to kidnaped one of her twins.
According to the prosecutor, “Ayorinde’s scream attracted the attention of other neighbours, who quickly forced their way into her apartment and helped apprehend the accused.”
He said the offence contravened Section 277 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin-Williams, in her ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Folarin-Williams held that the sureties must show proof of evidence of tax payment to the state government to the court’s registrar as part of the bail conditions.
