A 32-year-old farmer, Emmanuel Olarewaju, who allegedly broke into the Redeemed Christian Church of God Maternity Home in Alagbado through the window and stole N91,800 valuables, was on Monday arraigned in Lagos.

Olarewaju, a resident Ifesowapo Street, Iyesi, near Ota in Ogun State, is facing four counts bordering on conspiracy, housebreaking and stealing at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecution alleged that the accused broke into the RCCG Maternity Ward through the window and stole a Samsung phone valued at N35,000, an ITel phone valued at N35,000, a sum of N700, an iPhone 6 valued at N50,000 and a Nokia phone worth N2,600, property of the complainants, Mr. Olawale Shotolu and Miss Bosede Owolabi.

Police Sgt. Nomayo Kenrich told the court that the accused, with another man still at large, committed the offences on May 22 about 12.20 p.m. at Alagbado, a Lagos suburb.

“The accused was caught and handed over to the Police after the complainants raised the alarm,” prosecution said.

The offences violated sections 287, 310 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that sections 287 and 307 stipulate a three-year jail term for offenders.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. F. Williams, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Williams said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until July 4.
