The police in Taraba State have arrested one Nozal Musa, 21, of Magami ward in Jalingo for allegedly drugging one Mercy Usman, 16, and raping her.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr David Akinremi, said on Sunday that detectives attached to Gassol Division, acting on intelligence, also arrested one Nyali Yelwa,25; Ibrahim Bature,30; Buba Gose,30; and Yusuf Umaru, 20, all residents of Gassol for their involvement in kidnapping in the area.
The commissioner said in a statement that the suspects had confessed their active participation in kidnapping in Gassol Mutum-biyu and neighboring villages.
“They also confessed that in the last one month, they have successfully kidnapped five people and collected colossal amounts of money as ransom in Baru, Bako, Mararaban Gassol, Karim Barau and Bemal villages,” he added.
Akinremi added that detectives attached to Bali Division had in the past month arrested one Abubakar Hussaini who is a member of a criminal syndicate terrorising Bali and its environs.
The suspect, according to him, voluntarily confessed to being a member of a kidnapping gang which in December, 2017 conspired with one Dada and three others, now at large, and kidnapped one Faith Joshua for ransom.
The CP further disclosed that three kidnappers were gunned down at Baba Juli village in the Bali Local Government Area of the state by operatives while others escaped with bullet wounds.
Items recovered from the suspected kidnappers include one AK47 rifle, single-barreled gun, five rounds of 7.62 live ammunition, two expended cartridges, one cutlass, one face mask and a head tie.
Akinremi said efforts were on to arrest the fleeing suspects, while investigation into other criminal cases before the command were ongoing.
“The suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded,” he stated.
