A 40-year-old man identified as Nnamdi Omezi has reportedly committed suicide in Obosi town, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The deceased, it was gathered hung himself around 4pm on Monday, using a rope which he hung to the ceiling fan in his apartment located at No 7 Fred Ezika street Odume Layout.
Residents of the community said the reason behind the act was still unknown.
DAILY POST, however, gathered that indigenes of the community prevented police officers from bringing down the corpse, insisting that it was a taboo, and that certain rituals needed to be performed to cleanse the land before the corpse could be brought down.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of Anambra State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed said, ”Police detectives attached to Isiowulu Division visited the scene of the incident with a medical doctor, who certified the victim dead.”
He said efforts to recover the corpse for autopsy was on, adding that photographs of the deceased had been obtained, while the case was being investigated.
