An auto mechanic, Rasaq Oduntayo, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly driving recklessly and causing the death of a pedestrian.

Oduntayo, 40, who resides at No. 11, Ilori Crescent, Olowu, Ikeja, is being tried on three counts of reckless driving, manslaughter and driving without licence.

On June 18, along Abiola Garden Road, Ikeja, Oduntayo drove an unregistered Toyota Tundra pick-up recklessly and knocked down a woman, the Prosecutor, Inspector Raji Akeem, alleged.

According to him, the accused, who has no driver’s licence, hit a woman, identified as Madam Apata, killing her on the spot.

Akeem said that the accused was caught and apprehended by passersby.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 19, 20 and 25 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2012.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs I. A. Abina, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
