A 45-year-old prophetess identified as Jumoke Mutairu, and her 29-year-old accomplice, Uzoma Johnson, have been arrested by the Lagos state police command for extorting money from the public in the the pretext that they are officers of the force.
The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, while parading the suspects said they were arrested wearing black T-shirts with police crest and logo and black berets with police insignia.
Edgar said the police were still searching for the alleged leader of the group who is currently at large.
According to the police boss,” The suspects upon interrogation said they had been in the business for 15 years and were trained for six months by their alleged leader, identified as Johnson O. Oni, the founder of Chosen Ministry Church.”
Upon interrogation, Mutairu confessed that she did not claim to be a police officer but a security agent in order to create awareness for people on issues relating to crime, adding that the uniform was provided for them by Oni, who employed them.
“ I have been doing the job for 15 years, we don’t collect salary, we only get commission on the materials we sell. We sell an outline which goes for N1,200 and my commission is N300 on each one.”
Her accomplice, Johnson, on his part said, “I have only worked with the group for three weeks. We go around in police uniforms as security personnel, creating security-alert and selling their outline.”
Edgar further described the arrest as a breakthrough in policing, putting an end to stories of unprofessional police officers which had been soiling the image of the force.
