Corps member missing on way to A’Ibom

Akeem Adekunle

Sister of Akeem Adekunle, a member of the National Youths Service Corps posted to Akwa Ibom State, Kudirat, says there has been no word from him for three months.

Kudirat told our correspondent that her brother’s phone had not been reachable since he left Lagos for Akwa Ibom where he was posted to for the NYSC scheme.

According to her, he came to Lagos for the last Eid-el-Fitri celebration in July.

She said, ‘‘I spoke with him on the phone while he was in Lagos. It was later that some of his friends came to tell her that his line was not reachable days after he should have returned to Akwa Ibom.

“That was when we started looking for him. We contacted the officials of Itam Secondary School in the Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, where he was serving, but there has been no headway.”

Kudirat said she visited The Polytechnic, Ibadan, after some people started calling her with a hidden number to say Adekunle was seen on the campus of the institution.

She added that her visit to the school yielded no fruit because ‘‘one of his friends that I met on the campus told me he saw him sometime in August. It is something I cannot comprehend for I don’t think my brother will abandon the scheme for anything.’’

When contacted, spokesperson for the state NYSC, Mr. Abdullahi Yuguda, said the corps was still searching for the missing member.

He said, ‘‘We are still looking for him. We have not found him. The state coordinator can shed more light on the matter. But we at the Akwa Ibom NYSC are doing our best to look for him.”
