A 28-year-old man, Musa Bukar, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court over alleged stealing and presentation of fake United States dollars to a customer.
The defendant, who runs Bureau du Change, is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing genuine $5,000 and unlawful possession of fake $5,000, preferred against him by the Police.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Ingobo Emby, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 16, at about 1:30pm.
He said that the incident took place at plot 42, Olabanji Olajide Street, in Lekki Phase 1, area of Lagos.
Emby also alleged that the defendant obtained genuine $5,000 valued at N1.4 million from one Tony Emokpere, but allegedly exchanged it for fake $5,000 which he presented as original US currency to the complainant.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Consequently, Magistrate P. A. Balogun granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in the like sum and adjourned the case till January 13, 2016, for mention.
