Attempt by a tricycle driver to evade arrest by officers from Adoff police station at Iyano School bus stop along Iyano-Iba/Isheri road in Lagos
weekend reportedly claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and a man while many suffered varying degree of injuries.

An eye witness disclosed that the policemen were seen chasing the tricycle rider with their bus but in an attempt to evade the arrest, the driver crossed the crash barrier to the opposite side of the road without looking out for upcoming vehicles.

The eye witness added that immediately another tricycle rammed into the fleeing tricycle before a commercial bus and a jeep also rammed into the tricycles from behind.

The tricycle rider was said to have complained after the accident that he ran when he saw the police in the bus as they were out to collect money from them (tricycle riders) in the area.

The Police officers on seeing the accident, the eye witness, said ran away from the scene immediately, while tricycle and commercial bike riders matched to the Adoff police station in protest.

It was reported that the police officers on duty locked up the station gate on seeing them. Efforts to speak with the DPO of the station yesterday proved abortive as officers on duty said that the DPO was not around.

The tricycle riders called on the Inspector General of police to come to their aid before residents and commercial vehicles operators take the law in their own hands since they can no longer rely on the police.
