Woman arraigned for pouring hot water on neighbour

A Lagos State Magistrates’ Court, Ikeja, on Thursday granted a N500,000 bail to Esther Williams, who allegedly poured hot water on her neighbour
, Mabel Enwongomfon-Umoh, who is a nursing mother.

Williams had on Tuesday been arraigned on one count bordering on the offence, said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Vol. 44, No. 2, 2011.

She was accused of unlawfully causing Enwongomfon-Umoh grievous bodily harm.

Williams allegedly emptied a bucket of hot water on Enwongomfon-Umoh after they had a minor argument in their rented house on Thursday, December 24, 2015.

The incident reportedly left the victim, who was still breastfeeding her two-month-old baby, with severe burns on many parts of her body, including her two breasts and abdomen.

While admitting Williams to bail on Thursday, the magistrate said she was satisfied with the medical report that the victim was responding to treatment.

“The sureties must also show proof of tax payment to Lagos State,” the court said. The matter was subsequently adjourned till March 9, 2016.
