Police arrest doctor, nurse over plan to sell new-born baby

An unnamed doctor and a nurse at Survival Hospital, Igbogene, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, have been quizzed by the police.

The doctor and the nurse were arrested for their alleged involvement in an arrangement to sell a new-born baby in the hospital.

The baby in question was given birth to by one Nnena Florence at the Survival Hospital.
It was learnt that Florence (baby’s mother) had allegedly arranged with the doctor and the nurse prior to the delivery to sell the baby to an unnamed woman now on the run for N200, 000.

It was further learnt that Florence upon delivery, changed her mind and consequently refused to sell the baby as agreed.

For fear of retribution over her refusal, she reported the matter to the police.

Butswat said one Nnena Florence, a resident of Igbogene community, on the outskirts of Yenagoa metropolis, reported the doctor and the nurse to the police in Igbogene division.

Butswat in a statement on Friday said, “On the February 4, 2016, at about 1000 hours, one Nnena Florence, female, of Igbogene community, reported to the police that she was delivered of a baby on February 3 at Survival Hospital in Igbogene.

“She said that prior to the delivery, she had arranged with the doctor and the nurse of the hospital to sell the baby to one woman now at large, for the sum of N200,000 only.

“But upon being delivered of the baby, she changed her mind and refused to sell the baby as agreed.”
