Police arrest two for cult killings in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command said that it had arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of 15 persons in Omoku community, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It will be recalled that a group of unknown gunmen suspected to be cult members had on Friday shot and killed some of their victims during the raid of the community.

Some of those killed were beheaded in a gruesome and bizarre manner, as some residents of the area ran into nearby bushes and neighbouring communities.

The assailants, who were said to be armed with cutlasses and AK-47 rifles, shot intermittently, a development that immediately turned Omoku to a ghost town, with shops and other business concerns remaining closed.

But the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, said security operatives on Saturday stormed Omoku and arrested one Chimezie Ordu and Ikwudili Wordu.

Mohammad, who spoke with in a telephone interview explained that the two were currently undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

She said, “Sequel to last night (Friday) incident at Omoku, the Rivers State Police Command has now arrested the duo of Chimezie Ordu and Ikwudili Wordu. They are now undergoing interrogation at the State CID.”

Mohammad pointed out that apart from the arrest made, security agencies were trailing some of the hoodlums, who unleashed terror in Omoku community.
