An Akure Chief Magistrate Court has ordered for the remand in prison of a man, Sunkanmi Gabriel for allegedly stabbing to death a 25-year-old man, Ojo Akintoye with a broken bottle.
The accused person was brought to the court on one count of murder.
According to the prosecution, the 30-year-old accused person committed the offence at Oloko junction, Akure, the Ondo State capital on March 4,2016.
According to the prosecution, the offence had contravened section,316(1) and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
At the proceeding the police prosecutor, Mr. Martins Olowofeso prayed the court to adjourn the case to enable him send the duplicate file of the case to the Director of Public Prosecution, for legal advice.
He also asked the court to remand the accused person in the prison custody pending the time that the DPP would come out with its legal advice.
Though the accused person pleaded not guilty of the offence but his plea was not accepted as the presiding magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, in her ruling, ordered the remand of the accused person in Olokuta prison custody pending the outcome of legal advice from the DPP.
The magistrate therefore adjourned the case till May 2, 2016.
