Our correspondent gathered that the girl, who was sent on an errand by her mother, was lured into the abandoned building before being raped by the suspect.
Policemen attached to the Ojodu Abiodun Division of the command made the arrest.
The mother of the victim reported the incident to the police, and he was subsequently arrested. The suspect, our correspondent further gathered had confessed to the crime.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, had directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ojodu Abiodun to transfer the case to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit, Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Eleweran Abeokuta for proper investigation and prosecution.
He said, “The Commissioner of Police Ogun State has, however, advised residents in Ogun State to always encourage owners of abandoned or isolated structures to work on them or make them clean(clear the bushes) always so as to debar hoodlums from using them to perpetrate evil acts of this nature.
“He further advised the general public to cooperate with the police to fight crimes and social vices like this as such barbaric and inhuman acts must be totally eradicated.”
While he said the commissioner encouraged any victim of such abuse to report such to the police, not minding any social stigma, he added that Ali promised that anyone arrested for similar offences would face the full wrath of the law.
