Tricycle rider arraigned for assaulting policemen


A 37-year-old tricycle rider, Otus Ineh, has been brought before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos, for allegedly attacking policemen in front of the Guarantee Trust Bank, Ogba branch, Lagos State.

It was learnt that the accused on March 17, 2016, attacked one ASP Ayinde Adeyemi and his team from the Oke-Ira Police Post when he was challenged for stopping at the frontage of the bank.

He reportedly called his friends in the area, who joined him to fight the policemen.

He was arraigned on four counts bordering on obstruction before a magistrate, Mrs. E. Ikubeije.

The offences, according to the police, are punishable under sections 172 (b), 299, 166 (1) (d) and 96 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

The charges read in part, “That you, Otus Ineh, on March 17, 2016, at the front of GTB, Ogba, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did assault, resist and obstruct ASP Ayinde Adeyemi and police officers attached to Oke-Ira Police Post, while performing their lawful duty, when parked at the front of the bank to pick passengers.

Ikubeije granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till April 20.
