Truck kills pregnant woman, mob sets driver ablaze

Three persons, including a pregnant woman, have been crushed to death after a truck rammed into them in Osholo village, in the Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The driver of the truck and another occupant were said to have been killed by an angry mob which set them ablaze.

It was gathered that the incident occurred last Thursday when the driver, who was en route to Weppa from Ekperi, ran into guests at a burial ceremony, leaving three persons dead and injuring others.

The driver, who reportedly hailed from Weppa community, and the other occupant alighted the vehicle in an attempt to take the victims to a nearby hospital.

They were, however, attacked by some youths and forced back into the vehicle before setting the truck ablaze.

It was learnt that the situation angered some residents of Weppa community, who allegedly invaded Osholo and set some houses on fire.

Some policemen later arrived to prevent further loss of lives and property.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, while confirming the incident on Wednesday, said investigation had commenced.

He, however, could not confirm the number of suspects arrested as of press time.
