Kano police arrest 18 suspects over violent protest


Kano State Police Command on Friday confirmed the arrest of 18 suspects who have allegedly destroyed the houses of two law makers from Kano, Senator Kabiru Gaya and Honourable Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya.

Both lawmakers represent Gaya constituency at the Senate and the House of Representatives respectively.

The Command, however, noted that an attempt by the irate youths to also attack the Yalokuka Secretariat was foiled, due to the timely arrival of security operatives at the scene.

Reacting to the development, the State Police Command Public Relations officer, DSP Magaji Musa Majiya, explained that the entire building of Senator Kabiru Gaya was not set ablaze as widely reported.

Rather, he disclosed that the protesters partially razed an area housing the power generator within the building complex,

Also, the protesters set ablaze the campaign office and poultry farm belonging to the House of Representatives member from the area, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahamud.

However, Majiya, disclosed that normalcy has been restored to the affected part of the town, pointing out that the arrested suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
