60-year-old widower drowns in Edo flood

A 60-year-old man, identified as Osarobo Obayuwana, has drowned in a flood off First Powerline Street, Evbuotubu Quarters in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was learnt that late Obayuwana was on his way home and was trying to cross over an open drainage system said to be under construction when he tripped and fell.

A family member, who gave her name as Mrs. Izekor Isoken, said the victim had called for help but could not get any before he was swept away by the flood at about 12pm last Friday.

Isoken said the victim had lost his wife last year and lived with his aged mother and 20-year-old daughter.

She said his death could have been avoided if the drainage had been well covered.

Isoken said, “We were all crying for help but no one came. He went to buy some food for his aged mother before he died while trying to cross over.

“If the drainage had been well done, the man would not have died. We have been abandoned with no good roads. We make payments but we do not get power supply.”
