NDLEA destroys Delta cannabis farm

The Delta State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Monday disclosed that a cannabis farm measuring over 100 hectares of land has been destroyed in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state.

The Delta State Commander of NDLEA, Mr. Dennis Chidi Obiefule, made the disclosure while delivering a lecture to mark this year’s United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse. The day has the theme, ‘Listen First’. It was held at the Urhobo Cultural Centre in Warri.

Obiefule stated that the command recorded 31 convictions in the last one year, stressing that the agency was not relenting on its oars in the fight against drug abuse across the state.

According to him, the scourge was becoming more worrisome especially among youths and children, calling on parents to be more proactive in monitoring their wards from being drug addicts.

He added that drug traffickers were not concerned about the harm their illicit business was causing the society but the proceeds.

Obiefule said, “Since the early ‘90s, Nigeria has experienced an up scourge in drug trafficking and abuse. Those involved are only interested in the proceeds from the illicit business.

“As regards prosecution, 31 convictions were recorded while 17 dealers were cancelled in the year in review. Our men have also discovered a cannabis farm in Ndokwa West, covering over 100 hectares of land which was destroyed.”
