Four women die, nine others injured in Bauchi crash


Four people, including a minor, were on Sunday killed in a fatal motor vehicle accident at Miya Berkete village, in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Nine other people including three serving corpers and a Police Corporal serving in Nasarawa State, with two minors were said to be among those who sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the fatal accident in a statement made available to our correspondent in Bauchi on Monday, said the accident was caused by over speeding.

He said a team of policemen in a patrol, who arrived the scene of the crash immediately, rushed the victims to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where four female passengers were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

He said, “On July 10, 2016, at about 4pm, there was a fatal motor accident at Miya Berkete village in Toro LGA of Bauchi State.

“The accident occurred when an Opel Vectra, ash in colour with Reg. No. FH 277 ABC, driven by one Saadi Abdullahi, male (35), from Plateau State, conveying five passengers from Jos to Bauchi, on a high speed, brushed a motorcyclist, named Jibrin Haruna and his pillion.

“As a result, the driver lost control of the vehicle and had a head-on collision with an oncoming Golf 3 vehicle, blue in colour and with Reg. No. BSA 306 SC, driven by one Moses Dabo, male (34), from Jos conveying five passengers from Bauchi.

“Police patrol team attached to Toro Division visited the scene and rushed casualties to the General Hospital, Toro, for medical attention.

“Four female passengers were certified death on arrival by a medical doctor while nine other occupants including three female youth corps members, two drivers, a motorcyclist, his passenger and one CPL Rabiu Othman, male, of the NPF, serving in Nasarawa Command, were referred to ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for treatment.”

Mohammed, a Superintendent of Police, gave the particulars of the deceased persons as Maryam Usman, female (18), of Tilden Fulani; Hajara Idris, female (25); Amina Shuabu, female (seven) and Dayiba Musa, female (25), all of Rukuba Town in Plateau State.

He disclosed that other injured victims identified and referred to ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for treatment included Esther Enoch, female (27) – old youth corper serving at Treasury, Ministry of Finance; Bauchi, Samina Sami, female ( 23) – serving at Faith Revival School, Rafin Zurfi Yelwa; and Rosemary, whose Surname and address are yet to be ascertained.
