The Ondo State Police has arrested the parents of two missing kids for alleged involvement in their disappearance.

The two siblings, nine-year-old Dapo Babatobi, and seven-year-old Olajuwon Babatobi, were declared missing in the Ilara-Mokin community, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State on Wednesday.

According to a source, the children had left school for their grandmother’s residence in Ilara on that day.

After spending some time, they were said to have left for their mother’s house in the town.

Our correspondent was told that they neither got to their mother’s house nor returned to their grandmother’s house.

The source said, “Since that Wednesday, we have been searching for them. We have reported the matter to the police at Ila-Mokin, and they transferred the matter to the police division in Igbara-Oke.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed that the parents had been arrested, adding that it was to assist investigations.

He said, “We had to arrest them in order to get to the root of the case. We arrested the children’s mother, Mrs. Omolola Arijeloye; their father, Mr. Alaba Babatobi, and their stepfather, Mr. Arijeloye.”

It was learnt that Omolola, the mother of the missing children divorced their father, Alaba, and got married to Arijeloye some years ago.

It was gathered that since then, the missing kids had been staying with their maternal grandmother, Mrs. Fadekemi Falodun.

The PPRO said the police detained the parents of the kids because Omolola’s family had accused the father of the kids, Alaba, of threatening to get the children in his custody by all means possible.

The police spokesperson said the grandmother, who was initially arrested, was later released due to her age.
