A mob attacked the Sagamu Road Police Division in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State on Thursday and attempted to burn it down.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the mob became uncontrollable after its demand for three suspects arrested in connection with the death and dismembering of a seven-year-old boy was turned down.

The police division was said to have called for reinforcement.

The mob was later dispersed as the suspects were immediately taken to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

Our correspondent gathered that the seven-year-old was among many children on the premises of an orthodox church when he suddenly went missing on Wednesday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that some residents, around 2pm on Thursday, found one of the suspects, identified as Eric, carrying a sack which dripped blood.

When he was challenged, he was said to have abandoned the sack and fled.

He was, however, arrested.

When the sack was searched, some body parts of the victim were reportedly found.

A police source said the incident created chaos in the community.

He said, “The boy was on the premises of a white garment church when he was abducted. He was beheaded and his head buried in the church. One of the suspects was caught and he took them to the church where the boy’s head was buried. When the pastor was interrogated, he said some people asked him to use the head for a ritual to make his church grow.

“The police arrested some other suspects in connection with the crime. They were still interrogating them at the Sagamu Road Police Division when a mob attacked the station and asked the police to release the suspects to them for jungle justice.

“When they were about to burn down the station, the police called for reinforcement and sent the suspects to the SCIID, Yaba.”

The spokesperson for the state police command, Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the suspects had confessed to the crime.

He said, “The head was buried, while the body was kept in a canal. The case has been transferred to the SCIID for further investigation.”
